Based on years of working practice and observation I have developed a creative, sensorial and therapeutic learning programme drawing on montessori principles, which has proven success with many children of all ages and abilities.

The JOY Learning approach can benefit young people who have learning differences and/or those who are home educated and need bespoke learning support.

Learning anything new can be challenging but it's important that the element of joy isn't snuffed out of the learning experience. Without a sense of joy we lose momentum, motivation and enthusiasm - which are our essential allies on any learning journey. Resistance and blocks that may arise are acknowledged and worked with sensitively. Supporting and in some cases recovering self esteem through this delicate process is of the highest priority.

ONLINE & IN-HOUSE

I offer specialist Literacy tuition for children and young people who need extra support with getting to grips with reading & writing and/or have specific learning differences.

The introduction of the written word in a child's life should and can remain a magical discovery and a celebration.

Over the last few decades I been developing sensorial literacy games and activities which inject fun, colour and a touch of wonder into the process of learning to read and write. Puppetry is just one of the creative mediums I use to ignite a child's literary interest.

I work from Bristol & Bath - and online sessions are also available for children between the ages of 8 upwards. If your child is under the age of 8 years old and you are interested in online tuition then please contact me, as I take students on a case-by-case basis. A one to one tutorial with me lasts 1 hour at a fee of £35.

" Having moved our daughter out of mainstream school, we found it difficult to find a suitable tutor. Cassie is a godsend. Indigo responds well to her calm and sensitive approach. Rather than work to a strict curriculum, Cassie is able to tailor the education to the child. We could not be happier with Indigo's progress. "  Angus Biles

" Cassie is amazing. In a very short time she has improved our son's writing from a squiggle to neat legible handwriting. His understanding of spelling and forming letters has improved beyond our expectation. This is down to her very calm and patient manner which has enabled our son with Aspergers to feel confident and safe enough to express himself. We are so pleased. "  A. Chittenden

" Cassie has prioritised making a wonderful personal connection with my daughter and from this has flowed much thoughtful work. My daughter is always happy to work with Cassie and it is wonderful to see her progressing without pressure or stress. It is all about pride, fun and joy ."  Alice Parent

When children are pressured into learning in a way that does not take into account their unique character, learning style, strength and weaknesses ... stress and misery are the result. In my observation criticism, lack of awareness and patience can cause significant damage; children lose confidence, self esteem and trust in their abilities. Laziness, 'not trying hard enough' etc are often forms of  physical and emotional distress that can stem from an unsympathetic learning environment.

Children thrive when they are approached with care, patience and sensitivity and when the topics they are learning about have relevance and meaning to them.

Children are born with a natural and overwhelming desire to learn and explore.

Bringing literature to life with puppetry

Every child has a story inside of them waiting to come out.

Engaging children in the value of their own 'once upon a time' is a wonderful way to support

self esteem, confidence and creative expression. Literature comes to life through the art of puppetry making the process of learning to read and write more relevant, enjoyable and accessible.

I have created an immersive, engaging and unique story building and literacy workshop

using the magic art of puppet making, which supports key stages 1, 2 and 3 in literacy.

My professional training as a Montessori teacher has given me insight into how the brain grows and developes through the use of the hands. Combining puppet making with story writing is thus a magical recipe and can produce exceptional results. Encouraged by my expert and enthusiastic support, children's literacy skills are improved through a memorable and enchanting experience. My workshops also encourage the development of skills in listening, comprehension, discussion and group work.

Workshops include story time, a marionette performance, games

                                                                     puppet-making, creative writing and/or illustration.

I have developed four age-appropriate workshops suited to varying

levels of ability (including special needs) and time scales:

                                                                                1.      Morning or afternoon workshop -- 2 hours
                                                                                2.      Day workshop -- 4 hours
                                                                                3.      Project workshop -- 2 hour workshop weekly for 4 to 6 weeks
                                                                                4.      Ongoing drop-in classes
